Stop and smell the roses. Better yet, paint them! Join Bay Area artists for Paint Livermore 2024, Livermore Art Association’s annual plein air competition, June 7,8,9. This year, the competition overlaps with the 2024 Livermore Rodeo. Livermore will be at its most colorful. Along with the rodeo, artists can explore the lovely hills, wineries, and historical buildings as subjects for painting.
The 2024 location for the sales, judging and awarding of prizes will be in Livermorium Plaza in the heart of town. Check-in will be at Bothwell Park, (2466 Eighth St, corner of S H St and Eighth) due to the rodeo parade (see map here).
Wear your boots and bring out your paints—the Rodeo and Paint Livermore are the same weekend! More to paint, more ways to have fun, what more could an artist want? For more rodeo information, visit
I’m a longtime resident of San Francisco and I’ve been painting in plein air since 2020. I wish I could spend all my time soaking up the beauty in California landscapes and sharing my vision of them in paint. As an avid hiker, camper, and occasional backpacker, painting outdoors was something that felt very natural to me. Painting gives me a reminder to slow down and take in the colors, soundscapes, and mood of a scene.
My style has some perhaps opposing influences in California impressionism and contemporary abstraction. My art mostly depicts landscapes in the bay area: rugged coastlines, golden hills, and windswept trails. I’ve also created a lot of paintings around my hometown Ojai, and the California Sierras, since I bring an easel and a “let’s paint” attitude wherever I go.

It can be windy, bring things to hold down your easel and keep your artwork from flying.
Because entries to be judged will be hung on LAA panels, all entered artwork must be wired and ready to hang before arriving at Livermorium Plaza on Sunday. Paintings that aren't meant to be judged can be displayed on artists own easels. This means artists painting on panels or watercolor paper need to frame their work in order to attach the wire to the back of the frame. Anyone painting on stretched canvas can just add the wire to the stretched canvas bars. They could also frame the canvas and attach the wire to the frame. Personal easels must be secured against wind. Some people bring weights to attach to the easel legs, or tie the legs to another stable object.
