Warren Chang is a highly esteemed California artist, best known for his genre paintings, especially those portraying fieldworkers on the Central Coast of California.
“I felt this subject had a historical precedent dating as far back as the 16th century with the paintings by Peter Bruegel the Elder and later the work of Francois Millet and the 19th century Naturalist Movement in general. My works, though inspired by the paintings and subjects of the past, are however contemporary records of our times. I depict the farm worker honestly without idealization with an understanding of their plight. In a way I see the farm worker as a tragic figure, a metaphor for all humanity.”
Additionally, Warren Chang will host a Head & Figure Painting Workshop the following weekend, on March 29-30. Space is limited, so sign up early to secure your spot!
